A great mentor will act sometimes as a coach, guiding by exploring your knowledge and skills, or as a traditional mentor, building on your skills with their experience, and occasionally in the role of consultant to you and your business. Knowing which approach to take in which context is a key mentoring skill.
Throughout the summer I’ve been repairing our garden wall. For me, while I work on this I find I’m also working on my business, thinking about it without consciously choosing the next “stone”. I’ve learned not to question as often when my unconscious business choices rise to consciousness. Instead I run with them and see if they fit. Usually they do.

For a mentor, being curious, questioning the mentee is a vital part of the process. It is questioning to gain insight into the core values, as well as, many other facets of the business. Through the questioning process, both the mentee and mentor will be unlocking clarity.
